Almost ever since I was married, even though I was barely out of my teens, I have always loved getting family and friends together and feeding them. It gives me a certain amount of pride and achievement to know that they have been fed, and fed well, in my home. It’s definitely a way of showing love, and it’s so instantly rewarding.
ever since about 1988 I have recorded my family get-togethers in a journal, the date of course, the guests, the occasion, and most importantly of all – what I made for us all to eat.
For example, I can tell you that in April 1992, it was my eldest daughter’s first birthday, we had 21 people for a sit down meal and amongst other things I made pasticcio, stuffed vine leaves, squid in red wine, oh, and I ordered the birthday cake from Druckers!
It’s lovely to read, after many years have passed ,who shared our special days.
Our latest get-together was on Sunday – I had about 19/20 people over, for no special reason in particular, other than that some relatives of Sofia’s (my DIL) had come over for the engagement party, and I wanted to show them how much I appreciated that. This party was my first entry in my new ‘Jamie at home’ journal!
We had:
2 shoulders of lamb in Jamie’s bbq sauce, delicious
Jamie’s potatoes roasted in balsamic vinegar
pasticcio, which my Mom made
rice pilaf with bacon and vegetables
beef stifado
Coby’s meatloaf with coffee sauce
salad
warm potato salad with bacon from ‘Nigella Express’
homemade tahini salad
tiramisu with baileys, again from NE and
banana and butterscotch muffins…..
The food looks marvelous, Anna! And, I love your idea of journaling about your dinner parties. I just may try that. Thank you!!Lea xxx

Anna, that is exactly how I show my love and appreciation for friends and family too. Food! What an awesome meal you put. I started a journal recently too, to keep track of the events that sometimes go by too quickly and I need to savour again later on.

It all looks very impressive! Can I ask where you got your muffin cases from? I’ve seen them on American blogs but never seen the cases to buy in the UK. Thank you
